Creating even more space for our youngest guests (and their families!)

Maggie Marsh • Nov 18, 2020

We’ve made these improvements to Bradwall and Ashley Cottages – and we think our guests will love them.

When we realised we wouldn’t be able to welcome any holiday guests during the second lockdown we decided to use the time to make some improvements and to provide work for an excellent small local business.

After a lovely young family, who had stayed with us for two and a half months while their home improvements were completed, moved out of Bradwall Cottage on Saturday we started to plan.

To make sure we and others were safe we left the cottage for 48 hours before entering and starting to prepare the smallest bedroom for our talented carpenter Christian. We had always felt there was wasted space in this small room however it wasn’t until Christian looked at it this morning and instantly came up with a brilliant idea that we realised how much storage space we could create to house all our baby guest’s needs.

These had always taken up most of the the room in the wardrobe in this bedroom which has never left much space for adult needs. It is surprising how much space you need to store a travel cot and bedding, a high chair, stair gates, a bedside and other baby bits and bobs. By the end of the day Christian and Dan had built a purpose made cupboard and a single bed base in a recess with plans to paint it all tomorrow!

Also tomorrow they plan to build a similar bed base in Ashley Cottage so that adult guests no longer have to squeeze into a child size bed if they wish to sleep downstairs in this cottage. The downstairs bedroom is too small for a conventional single bed, however we discovered that a purpose built bed base will hold a full size single mattress. This will provide us with much more flexible accommodation as it allows us the opportunity to now offer this cottage to a couple and a single, or to two business people who require a bedroom each. They will just have to toss a coin – who has the king size upstairs bed and who has the downstairs single?!

We have had many adult guests who have happily slept in the small child size single in Ashley Cottage and returned many times, however we are now pleased to be offering them more home comforts which is always our aim.

We'll get some photo's of the improvements as soon as they're complete – check back to see the finished results!

As a family-owned business, people are at the heart of everything we do, so your safety and health is, and continues to be, our top priority. We have put measures in place to ensure you can have a safe and enjoyable stay in our cottages and studio. All of our properties are cleaned to a high standard, however, right now any ‘normal’ cleaning procedures will simply not be enough to control the spread of Coronavirus. So we have produced our enhanced cleaning guidelines to help reduce the risk wherever possible and to give you peace of mind. Allowing additional time for the cleaning to take place. This does mean that we need to ask our guests to check in later (at 4pm), and check out earlier (at 10am), but we hope you understand that it is for the safety of you, and our housekeeper. Providing our housekeeper with appropriate masks and cotton and rubber gloves. We have also advised on the correct and safe protocol for ‘donning’ and ‘doffing’ these items. The cotton masks and gloves are then washed at a temperature above 60 degrees. Taking high-risk/high-touch items out of properties. This includes items such as board games. Deploying extra hygiene measures, such as cleaning and disinfecting high contact areas of a property, such a door handles. We are asking guests to follow some simple measures such as washing their hands each time after entering the property and bagging up their bedlinen, towels and tea towels before they leave. Even with all the measures that are being taken, we cannot 100% guarantee that your property will be Covid-free. We trust that the risk of contagion in any one of our properties is very low – much lower, for example, than visiting a shop or supermarket. If you or a member of your party show symptoms that could be related to coronavirus you must follow the appropriate government advice. In addition, please contact us and we will be able to assist you. When contacting the NHS, please specifically state that you are staying in a holiday property. If you are advised by NHS to remain at the property, we will work to facilitate this as best we can and you will be required to pay the amount due for an additional stay in addition to any related cost.
